Creating Fashion Products

Last updated 23/08/2017

Fashion Products have some great features to speed up data entry. This article explains how to create them.

Overview

Fashion products are those products with both colors and sizes. Instead of creating multiple products for each variation, you can create one product with multiple colors and sizes.

This saves time when entering data into the system - fashion products appear in the color/size grid or 'line sheet' format when creating Purchase and Sales Orders and Invoices for your customers.

Setup

Before you can add in fashion products, make sure that you have set the products module up correctly. To do this:

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.
  2. From the Products menu, select Product Settings.
  3. From the Industry drop-down, select Fashion.
  4. Click Save.

This will add in a few extra fields to the product details page.

Size Ranges

Fashion Products make use of a separate set of data called Size Ranges. Size ranges predetermine a range of sizes for any given product.

Before you can create a fashion product, you will need to create a size range.

To do this:

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.
  2. From the products menu, select SKU / Size Ranges.
This will take you to a list of current size ranges.
  3. Click Add New.
  4. Enter the details (explained below) and click Insert.

The fields are as follows:

Field Explanation
Active Switch this range on or off.
Sort Determines the order of the range in the list.
Name Determine the name of the range, this should be representative of what the range contains.
Label This must be Sizes.
Options Each size in the range will be entered here. Each size should be entered on a new line.

Examples

To pick a very simple example, let's say you buy T-Shirts that come in Small, Medium and Large. You would create range named "S - L", and you would create the following options:

S
M
L

If you bought a new line of T-Shirts that had an additional extra large size, you would need to create a new range, named "S - XL" with the following options:

S
M
L
XL

You should aim to end up with every possible range that your products are sold in.

Size Range Imports

If you are importing products from a spreadsheet, good news! Size Ranges will be created automatically for you.

Creating a Fashion Product

Once you have done all of the above, it's time to create a product!

  1. Follow the basic product setup as detailed in Creating Products.
  2. Under Size Grid at the bottom of the page, select a size range.

Selecting a size range will change the Stock Control method to Batch. This is because fashion products are stored as batches and must not be changed.

  3. Cin7 will automatically create size codes for you - the size option from the size range will be appended to the code given above.
  4. Click Save and Close.

Note that sizes will be created for each product option that you have, so you can have multiple colors as product options, with multiple sizes.

When you sell this product, a size color grid will appear - see Creating a Sales Order for Fashion Products.
